“It’s not taking that long for break-in – already it sounds like a whole different system – denser, richer, weighty but still focused and clear.  Best $400 I ever spent! Thanks for the good advice. “

Part-time Audiophile reviewed EL34PH with Jadis JA200 amps

Reviewer Darryl Lindberg said ” Once fired up, it was clear from the outset that the Psvane EL34PHs produced a more three dimensional/full-bodied, more colorful, and more “organic” or natural sound than the 6CA7s, which I always found powerful and, for lack of a better word, incisive. And by “more colorful,” I’m not talking about surreal, over-saturated technicolor sonics; it’s just more lifelike. I certainly didn’t detect any attenuation at the frequency extremes, supposedly an EL34 downside: the lows were still powerful and well-defined and the highs were extended and sweet.” – read the full comprehensive review here at Part-Time Audiophile website.

New! Psvane ACME Supreme Series coming to market!

In the high end audio world, there seems to be no ceiling – in terms of innovation, technology or even price! Psvane has been pumping out high end tubes since their inception back in 2010, and this year, 2018, they have launched ACME Supreme series with the intention to ‘top the tube world, be it NOS or new production’! Let’s find out what is new about this Supreme series – as factory announced:

  • 5+ years of R&D poured in to create this Supreme series and world’s first 3D designed tube structure
  • Patented hybrid plate design – combination of graphite and mesh material first time used at the same time on high power output tubes (845, 211, 805) to achieve synchronized expansion even at 600 Celsius temperature, high emission capacity, and super stability.
  •  Overhang filament structure on 300B, 274B, 2A3 model to achieve very airy and high resolution sound reproduction. Vintage style globe shape glass enclosure on these models.
  • 5mm diamater larger glass enclosure on 845/211/805 than regular series to allow quick heat dissipation and enhanced stability
  • Teflon base with sand blasted aluminum cover – no finger print residual!
  • German solder used in pin connection and of course, gold plated!

How do they sound? Here are what factory said after A/B audition by audiophiles at pre-launch:

  • ACME Supreme 300B vs. Western Electric 300B (1998 production): “Clarity and transparency are stunningly better on the Supreme series, you can almost touch the singer in the sound stage. Scarily live! For mid range that Western Electric 300B has always been lusted for, ACME Supreme 300B doesn’t lack of any texture, fullness, richness, and tonality. Audiophiles say that ACME wins hands down on depth and width of sound stage comparing to Western Electric 300B (1998 production)! It is of all the classic vintage sound signature – the absolute analog sound! “

  • ACME Supreme 845 vs. other 845: “We have never heard a 845 tube with this much inner resolution and details! We all know that compared to smaller output power tubes such as 300B or 2A3, 845 loses some of the inner details but this one is an exception! It is fast, transparent, with super control from high frequency to the low’s! Instruments and vocal reproduction are superbly smooth and layered. Very emotion evoking!”

12AT7-TII: “better than even any of our NOS Amperex Bugle Boys… very very nice”

Feedback from Dave C. via email:

“Hi Rachel, thought I’d drop you a note regarding the Psvane 12at7s I received two weeks ago. At first they sounded bad; no bass, a recessed treble, and audible distortion in the upper midrange. My system is very discerning (a David Berning amp without transformers – no buffer, what you hear is directly from the tubes; Joule-Electra LA-300ME preamp, a pair of Avantgarde Duo Grosso horn speakers, gold plated silver cables). After 30 or so hours the sound was noticeably better; bass & treble arrived and the upper mid distortion disappeared. After 50 hours the sound is excellent. Better than even any of our NOS Amperex Bugle Boys.

We have many NOS 12AT7s (well over 50 pairs) and these Psvanes are seriously the best. Better across the range than 1950’s Mullards & Telefunkens. Better than anything NOS American. The Psvanes sound very similar to French made NOS late ’50’s  Mazdas (a very clean midrange tube) but with slightly warmer mids & vocalists sound staging several feet in front of the speakers. Very very nice.

So… if you get any complaints, tell your buyers to be patient, play music through their system even when they are absent, and with time (more than any tubes we own) they will be happy.

System:
Line Magnetic LM-518IA
2 x 12AX7 NOS Tungsram, 1964
1 x GZ34 NOS Amperex Bugle Boy Metal Base rectifier, 1957
2 x EL34 PSVANE EL34PH
2 x 845 PSVANE ACME

Line Magnetic LM-502CA DAC
2 x 12AU7 NOS Brimar, 1967
1 X 6X4 NOS Mullard rectifier, 1958

Focal Sopra 2 speakers
Transparent MusicWave Plus Cables
Mac Mini with Audirvana Plus 3.2.14

“First of all, I tried the LM 845 stock tubes, the PSVANE 845 TII, the Treasure 845Z  and the WE845 with the TII’s being my favorites”

“Out of the box, the ACMEs were a big improvement, the sound was more powerful and crisp. Now, after 150hrs, they are clearly above everything else I tried.  The mids are freakin’ incredible bringing some air and pushing the instruments and voices forward with crystal clarity and energy.  The bass has a lot more extension and authority feeling beefier without being boomy. The highs have some clarity that makes my system sparkle .  I really, really like that. The sound stage is huge, dead center but pushed forward compared to the WEs.  Like I said, before these, I favored the TIIs for their warmer sound. With the ACMEs, I get the warm sound without losing the magic in the mids.  The music is engaging even at low volume which is a first in my system.”

I feel that these tubes are really exceptional, it’s like having a new sound system.”

Feedback on ACME805 from customer Joshua W via email:

  •  Amplifier- Line Magnetic 508ia integrated amplifier
  • Speakers- Trenner and Friedl Pharoah speakers
  • Speaker Cables- Auditorium 23

“These (ACME 805) tubes are noticeably physically heavier and larger than the stock rebranded Psvane (HiFi series 845) tubes that Line Magnetic provides with their amplifiers. They are also strikingly beautiful pieces of hardware. “…….

“The ACME tubes sounded solid and transparent from the start and this only increased as they broke in over time. Break-in time is where I differ with some who may read this brief review. I did not notice drastic changes in sound after the first 15 to 20 hours of run-in. In fact, I felt that of all the power tubes I have tried in my amplifier E.g. Psvane HiFi series 805, Psvane 805A-T, TJ Full Music, and Sophia Electric, these (ACME 805) tubes changed the least over their recommended  break-in period. They hold their bias perfectly. I have yet to adjust the bias up to this point in time. (Nearly two months of use). Every other power tube I’ve owned has had bias that drifted around a bit. Not these tubes.” …….

“Comparatively to the other tubes I’ve used, they have do have greater transparency, but where I felt these tubes excelled most in my system was when I pushed it hard and listened at high volume levels. The tubes held the sound together with great finesse and authority, never losing any control over the musical situation at hand. “……..

ACME300B / 845 feedback “Drums, guitar and piano sounded better than i have ever heard before, period.”

Feedback from customer Donnie R. via email:

“So, here I am listening to my Cary300 SEI amplifier one fine day and I get an itch to try a new 300b tube. Not that I am disappointed with the Shuguang Treasure 300BZ, just that I’m in the mood for something of a different flavor. My first instinct was to peruse Grant Fidelity’s website and see what their offerings were. Why Grant Fidelity? I’ve been purchasing tubes for quite some time now and i have always been extremely happy with both their products and service.

As soon as i bring up the website i stumble upon and am immediately fascinated with a new series of tubes called Acme. Low and behold what do I find? A new 300B tube in this series. So naturally, i had to order myself a matched pair to try out. As soon as i received the Acme tubes i wasted no time breaking them in. Although i knew these tubes needed some time to really shine, i must admit, i realized they were something special from the first 20 minutes or so of listening to them. Being as impressed as i was, i hurried up in placing an order for the new Acme 845 tube to try out in my Cary 805AE mono blocks. More on that later…. So now here i am after about 100 or so hours later of listening to the Acme 300b’s have i decided it was time for some critical listening. Immediately, i knew that i was headed for something special. Listening to some classics such as Dan Fogelberg, Kenny Loggins and Neil Diamond sounded insanely good right from the start. So insanely good in fact, that i powered down the whole system and decided to try these tubes in my Sophia Electric mono blocks for more of the same. I must say, it was at this time that i realized that these Acme 300b tubes supplied the most beautiful 8 watts or so i have ever heard. This time they replaced the Sophia Electric Royal Princess 300b’s which were already very engaging to begin with. Music effortlessly played against a pitch black background. Highs were airy, midrange was surreal and bass was accurate. Instruments were incredibly textured and transparent. I couldn’t bring myself to stop listening even after my wife called me three or four times to eat one of my favorite meals. I was blown away and completely lost in the music i was listening to. Soundstage was wide and deep way beyond where my speakers were placed. The midrange sounded slightly forward on some tracks but it wasn’t so much as “In your face so”. It was like the artists were performing 2 or 3 feet in front of me. Warm and engaging but very transparent indeed. The next day i decided it was time for the ultimate audio experience. I quickly and anxiously pulled out the stock tubes from my Cary 805 AE’s which were Gold Lion 300b’s and Shuguang 845C’s and popped in the Acme 300b and 845 tubes, then biased them. I let the tubes warm up for a few minutes and then like an addict of some sort that could no longer wait for his next fix, I popped in a cd and rushed to sit down with the remote in hand. As soon as i heard that first note from Neil Diamond’s voice through my system, I had a smile on my face from ear to ear. Never had i heard Neil’s voice so natural and organic. Textures and sound staging was the best i have ever heard. I mean this combination of tubes was pure heaven to my ears. Everything was in balance. Bass was better than before, not bloated at all. That magical SET midrange was absolutely gorgeous and warm. Highs were airy and in no way fatiguing. Drums, guitar and piano sounded better than i have ever heard before, period. Next, i popped in a Firefall cd for a track called “Just remember i love you”. One word, Wow! No, two words, Holy Cow! I must have listened to over 30 tracks that night. Some repeatedly two or three times. Each track was listened to as though it was the first time i’ve ever heard them. Each and every one of them was with a renewed sense of enjoyment. I was hearing music in a whole new way. I think i have finally found audio nirvana. How happy am i with the new Acme 845 and 300b series of tubes? Well, let’s just say, i’m putting aside money so i can purchase the rest of the Acme line of vacuum tubes! From one music lover to another all i can say is do not hesitate to try these tubes out from Grant Fidelity. I think you will be just as floored as i was and still am. Highly recommended!

“the 12AX7LS are the best I’ve heard in my system for phono”

Feedback received from Steven D. via email:

“Hi Rachel,

Initial impressions on the Treasure 12ax7-LS in the critical phono preamp application are positive (George Wright’s WPP200C, 2 x 12ax7 per channel, 60db gain MC). Replacing the Psvane T-IIs, I find the sound is more articulate / better organized / more coherent / less homogenized. Appears as if the noise floor has been lowered, better low level info retrieval. Better bass, too.

My comments should be taken with a grain of salt, as I did not do an A-B comparison, and there was about a week’s gap in listening, so I am working from memory. Still, the LS are the best I’ve heard in my system for phono. System is reasonably revealing: upgraded Nantais classic Lenco, AT ART-9 MC cart, RS-A1 tonearm, passive TVC volume, 2A3 SET, DIY crossoverless fullrangers for speakers (they and my hearing both roll off at ~15KHz ;).

Cheers,

Stephen”

ACME 300B: “I’ve spent the last few weeks getting blissfully lost in albums I already know”

Feedback received from Kevin R. by email on ACME300B:

“I recently burned in my ACME 300Bs and I’m in audiophile heaven. I find there’s strong performance quality to their sound which lends a live in-the-room feel to almost every recording I run through them. That’s not to say that the players are all huddled together like a Spector session. On the contrary, the sound stage thrown is very detailed, deep and quite wide. I have no trouble focusing on any part or player in a given track as if mixed as the focal point. I’ve spent the last few weeks getting blissfully lost in albums I already know backwards and forwards which is no small feat.

I especially enjoy when a recording contains ambient queues and so do the ACME’s, effortlessly moving walls, raising ceilings and throwing an image so vivid it’s a wonder your eyes can’t see it.

The only downside that I can think of is that I don’t have a second pair lying in wait for that unfortunate day when they give up the ghost but I plan on broaching that subject with my wife as soon as she gets home. Wish me luck.”

Type 50 tube “if you like the sound of the old triodes go for Grant Fidelity (type 50)”

Read review by long time Type 50 tube lover Rob from Netherlands:

Conclusion.
Winners are Grant Fidelity and EML. I would put my money on these. You get new tubes, with warranty. If you like the sound of the old triodes go for Grant Fidelity, if you do favor a bit more modern sound, EML would be your choice. Comparing the Grand Fidelity 50 to the originals, the originals will set you back a heap of money for used pairs, whilst difference in sound will be subtle. You get the same character for far less money, and new. As a runner up I mention the EML’s. They do not exactly match tone and spaciousness like the Grant Fidelities and originals, but do breath about the same character with more tight bass and highs. A bit more “modern” sound. Available new as well. Take your pick.
One thing to mention, the Grant Fidelity type 50 was a one batch production, so only a limited stock is available. No idea how much pairs are left at this time..”

PayPal’s refund policy update – PayPal Fees no longer refundable!

We use Paypal to process payment from worldwide for all orders placed on our website. It is the most efficient way to process payments from credit cards issued in multiple currencies, and issued from multiple countries.

However, we have just received notice from Paypal stating that starting May 19th, 2020, the Paypal fee a merchant (seller, ie. us) paid when receiving payment for a transaction, is NO LONGER REFUNDABLE BY PAYPAL.

What does this mean to a buyer?

It means: when you place an order, for whatever reason you need to request a refund after order placed and paid, we can only refund you the NET amount we receive, but not the PayPal fees, that has been deducted by PayPal and no longer refundable to us.

PayPal fee typically ranges from 2.9% to 3.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, depending which country your card was issued in.

This is a bad news for online buyers who wish to return / refund order. But we also hope it will encourage buyers to think twice before rushing to place order, rather than changing mind quickly to request to return / refund. It does cost buyer money for such change of mind.

This refund policy will be implemented by our website starting May 19th, 2020.

” Rachel, Just want to send you an update… and a thank you. My Psvane 300B Acmes took forever to break in; forever; but they’ve blossomed beautifully into a great set of tubes. They have the cleanest clearest midrange I’ve ever heard. Vocals are amazing; and our Audion Golden Dreams/Avantgarde Duo Grossos sound lovely. You advised to give them time and – you were right. Thank you. “

Stock status / Shipping status during Coronavirus time

We have received a few inquiries lately about supply and shipping impact by Coronavirus..so here we go:

First of all, China is stabilized and factory production is gradually resuming to normal now. However, we also see more in-flow infection cases brought from other affected countries to China, but Chinese border control is closely monitoring all international visitors. So we right now do not expect major supply interruptions by our Chinese tube suppliers. We have also re-stocked recently on popular tube models. We don’t expect to see stock issue from our order fulfillment end, unless demand increases suddenly.

Order shipping as usual: all tube orders placed on this website now are shipped from our Canadian office in Alberta, Canada. We have all precaution measurements in place now to reduce risks of virus impact, so inbound / outbound shipping is as usual.

Shipping cost might increase: We have received notifications from various international carriers about freight / postage increase due to shortage of international flights. We will do our best to hold our ‘free airmail shipping’ offer on all applicable countries for as long as we can.. however, if postage / freight increases to an extent beyond our cost can bear, we may have to add a shipping surcharge due to this unexpected situation. If this happens on shipping route to certain destination countries, we will communicate with buyers and advise increased shipping cost. Buyer will have option to either cancel order or proceed with the shipping surcharge.

We will continue update this post if any situation changes. Please come back and check if needed.

Last but not least, we hope all our customers, audiophiles and music lovers to stay well, stay safe, and enjoy your in-home time with audio and music!

Best,

Rachel @ Grant Fidelity

Feedback from customer Dave via email:

” Rachel, A short note of thanks. I complained to you about the Psvane Acme 300Bs several times and you repeatedly told me to be patient; give them time. After 30-40 hours I was close to dumping them on Audiogon but you again said wait. Well; I reluctantly waited; and now after 150 hours they’ve blossomed into the nicest 300Bs we’ve had in our system. Our Emission Labs are put away. TJ Meshplates, Genalex… not even close. My friend’s beloved Takatsukis; nice, yes, in the same ballpark, but $2000 more expensive and not better.   We’ve never had tubes that took this long to break in but it is well worth the wait. The mids, highs, & vocals came together around 70 hours. The bass arrived at around 100 hours. The dynamic range & slam came after 100 hours, and now at around 150 hours they simply sound phenomenal. Bass is tight. Treble clean & extended. Vocals are perfect. Music sounds… right. Even old ’60s classic rock recordings sound good; and they sounded awful before.
When you have a customer that’s disappointed, you can confidently tell them the same that you told me. Thanks Rachel.  Dave”
